So, I Married a Skater?

So..we headed out to Sam's to get the veggie tray for the party tomorrow night and as we got off on Woodruff Rd., Matthew got in the left hand turning lane instead of the right...so I said, "Sam's is that way." He said, "I know, I wanted to make a quick stop somewhere else before we go to Sam's." He would not tell me where he wanted to go. We pull into this shopping center with two restaurants and a few random stores that I had never been to. I knew we weren't going to the restaurants because we had already eaten (remember, I cooked.....sandwiches and canned soup). So, he parks the car and goes into this skate shop....yes, a skate shop....in his dress pants, dress shoes, and collared shirt.

I decided to wait in the car because I thought he was just going to see what the store had, etc. He's in there about 10 minutes and my cell phone rings. He says, "Do you mind if I buy one?" I said, "buy what?" He said, "a skateboard." I was cracking up.....I said, "you've got to be kidding me!" Needless to say, Matthew bought himself a skateboard tonight.....SCARY, I KNOW...that means pray for him!

So we're driving down the road after he makes his purchase and he proceeded to tell me that the guy in the store asked him if he had any skate shoes...of course, Matthew said "no." Then he asked him if he had any pads or a helmet... again, Matthew said, "no." Matthew told the guy that he better not buy all of that stuff tonight and the guy let him know that he probably needed to have that stuff before actually USING the skateboard. Then the guy asked him what his wife thought about his decision to start skating.....ha, ha! I got a kick out of that.

I'm not sure what inspired him to do this, but I think it's pretty humorous. He has been talking about wanting to skateboard again, but I didn't really think he was serious. You know, there are lots of things that I used to do as a kid that I'd like to try again....but I guess he's more courageous than I am. I don't think he has gotten on a skateboard since middle school. I'd love to be fly on the wall at the skate park. It won't take long for him to realize that his body doesn't move quite like it used to. We do have insurance....thank goodness!

I just thought this was too funny not to share....Gotta love him!

Lazy Day

What a great day of doing absolutely NOTHING! I woke up today around 9:45, finished my book around 10:30, worked out, took a shower, put my pajamas back on and started my next book. It was great! Hey, I even cooked dinner.....turkey sandwiches and canned soup!!!:-) Thank goodness Matthew will eat anything placed in front him! It has been such a busy couple of weeks it was nice to finally relax and do nothing today.
I still have 5 more days off before school starts back. It has been such a fantastic break! I have been able to spend time with family, shop, sleep late, eat lots of sweets, relax.....all the things I love to do. Christmas was wonderful too. We spent half of the day at Matthew's grandma's house and the other half of the day at my mom's. We all had such a great time. I love Christmas....I'm always a little sad when it's over. Everyday should be a celebration!
Alright, well I just wanted to update a little....we are on our way out the door and Matthew's ready to go. Gotta go to Sam's to get a veggie tray for the New Years Eve party tomorrow night. Me cook? That's completely out of the question! Hey, BTW we have eaten at home all but 2 nights since school got out....go me!
HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!

Satisfaction Guaranteed!

Last night, Matthew and I were talking about a book that he is reading called, "The Sermon on the Mount." The chapter that he was reading to me was about contentment. As we were talking, I started to think about the things in life that make me feel completely content and then the things that easily bring discontent. Then we talked about why it is so easy for us/people to become so discontent in all aspects of life...marriage, materially, socially, professionally, etc. What I know and have known for a very long time is that my discontentment comes when I take my eyes off God and try to invest or focus too much on other things. God wants me to find contentment in any and all situations that He brings my way (even when things are tough). I am so thankful that when I do look to Him, in easy as well as difficult times, He can bring that contentment and at least help me understand the source of my discontent.

Contentment is something that has come and gone for me. I think I have lived most of my Christian walk as a fairly content person. But somewhere is the midst of some things I think complete contentment may have become a little harder to find. I was unable to sleep at night, worrying all the time, and upset. God has brought me back to a place of contentment again and for that I am truly thankful. I have looked to Him so much. I have asked so many questions, and I have seen His love, faithfulness, provision, guidance, assurance, and grace more than ever before. He has shown me so much and taught me so much.

Although God wants us to find contentment in all things, it is during those times of discontent that I have learned so much about joy in contentment, even when the situation may not be ideal. I also don't think it is natural for us to always feel content...that is how God uses situations to stretch us, teach us, and grow us. Without feelings of discontnent, we may never grow to be the fully committed followers that Christ has called us to be. I also don't think that we should always feel completely content with the way things are in our Christian walk. I think if we do feel that way, we may have just gotten comfortable and quit abiding. SOOO....I say all this to say....rely on Him in your discontent and that's where true contnentment that only He can give will come....satisfaction guaranteed!

10 Things I Love About Christmas

OK, so today I had my kids make a list of 10 things they love about Christmas....They turned out really cute. Some were very serious and detailed others wrote anything and everything they could think of. Here are ten things that I thought were funny from the different lists:

10 Things My Class Loves About Christmas:

1. Not getting a lump of coal.

2. Finally getting toys/presents that my parents are too cheap to buy.

3. You can build an igloo. (what?)

4. Soul food at Grandma's house.

5. Playing my harmonica to all the Christmas songs...(if you knew this child, oh my!)

6. Feeding the reindeer on my roof.

7. Waking my parents up way too early.

8. Bling-bling rings

9. Seeing Santa's sleigh in the sky and watching to see if he's going to stop at my house because my brother is always bad.

10. Pretending to like the sweater my grandma gives me! (Can you believe it!)

Children are so funny and they just say whatever is on their mind...That's why I love 'em!

Here is the list I made to share with my class.

10 Things I Love About Christmas:

1. Celebrating the birth of Jesus.

2. Time with family

3. Christmas Parties

4. Lights, bow, wreaths, & trees, oh my!

5. Christmas music

6. Christmas Eve Candlelight Service

7. Giving gifts to others

Post-Honest Blog.....

OK, so this is how honest I am going to be.....after I wrote my "To Be Honest" blog, I was worried about what I wrote (Carrie, I know you can relate to me). I contemplated whether I should change some of it or not, such as numbers 1, & 5 for fear of being misunderstood. After thinking about it and rereading it, I decided that there were no changes that needed to be made. I was asked to be honest, right? So with that said....

1. I am not an angry person.

5. I do not claim to know it all. :)

That's me! Why I feel I have to explain myself.....I don't know. God knows my heart, He knows my joys, my sorrows, my fears, angers, frustrations, motives, and He loves me the same...and that's all that really matters....what an amazing God!

To Be Honest....

I think it is so funny that Rachel gave me an "honest blogger" award because I feel like I hold back so much when I write my blogs, (just being honest)! I've had so many people tell me they read them....okay the truth is, I don't want the wrong eyes to see my true honesty. That's OK though, Rachel knows where I'm comin from and she know my struggles, angers, frustrations, and why I have to be oh so careful! Anyway, thanks Rachel!

Here are the instuctions:

"When you receive the prize, you must write a post showing it, together with the name of who has given it to you, and link them back. Choose a minimum of 7 blogs that you find brilliant in their content or design. Show their names and links and leave them a comment informing that they were prized with 'Honest Weblog'. List [if you can and/or dare] at least ten honest things about yourself. Then, pass it on!"

OK, so here is the honest part!

1. Sometimes I get so frustrated That I wish I could say what I really think....don't think that would go over to well. :)

2. I have pretty bad road rage...sometimes I just have to turn the Christian radio station up to contain myself.

3. I can't stand a kink in my plan, I am petrified of roaches, and I don't like being alone.

4. I am very skeptical, unlike my husband. He trusts everyone until they give him reason not to. I don't trust anyone until you give me reason to. We balance each other out well.

5. I can read people well.....

6. I HATE being anywhere near the center of attention! When I feel pressure, I get nervous, sweaty, and plain sick.

7. I have a very low self-confidence...partly because of how I was raised..that's a whole other blog.

8. Being a Pastor's wife is both an honor and a challenge. God IS faithful and it is so worth it.

9. I have cried more this year than I have in a long time.

10. I can play innocent well!

11. Oh, one more...I must be a moron because I don't know how to link my bloggers, oops! I will just list and tell about them...you know who you are.

Ok, so I choose the following blogs:

1. OK, my first would be Rachel. I look forward to checking her blog everyday. Since I can't experience her in person, this is my way of keeping up with her life. I love to read about her family and what's going on in her life. I often find myself in tears after reading her blogs... sometimes because of her heartfelt messages and often times because I just think she is plain funny. I admire her for the woman that she is, so strong and bold. I know now as a Pastor's wife how hard it can be...thank you Rachel for listening to me and loving me through this year.

2. Next, is Carrie. Carrie's blog makes me laugh more than anything. She's got a way with words that I just love. I also love to see pictures of sweet Caleb.

3. Jennifer Reynolds is also a non local friend that I can keep up with through her blog. I love to see Meredith (who is beautiful) and what they are doing these days. You look like a great mommy!

4. My next pick is my brother, Jason. I always like to see what kind of mischief he is up to. This is a way for me to make sure he is behaving himself and keeping life straight, right?

5. My sister-in-law, Gwendolyn, who is such a sweet girl is my next pick. I love to read about her pregnancy and life at school, which I can relate to.

6. Susan, a friend at work who always makes me laugh. I will have to figure out how to link it so everyone else can see how funny you are!

7. Erica, my cousin who lives in Vermont whom I only get to see through pictures. Love keeping up with your life on the farm and your "project" of a house. Keep the stories coming!
